When it comes to living green, people don’t know where to start. They think that recycling isn’t useful or that a smart thermostat is a waste of money. What if everyone in the world thought that? Think about how much garbage would be in the streets and how high each of our electricity bills would be. No thank you! If everyone did at least one of these four things, the world would be a little bit greener. Not to mention, your energy bills would get a little bit lower. Now I have your attention!
Recycling is so important. The Earth has so much unnecessary garbage in it. Because of this, most people think it’s too late to recycle. Their logic is that the environment is already filled with trash, so why start recycling now? This kind of reasoning is why our world is filled with so much garbage! If everyone made the conscious decision to toss their plastic water bottle into the recycling bin, we would have so much less trash accumulated in our landfills just after one day! Figure out how to start recycling different items in your home. Start labeling bins in your garage for plastic bottles, glass bottles, and paper. Just one person can make a difference in the amount of waste our world has!
2. Skip the plastic bags.
Be honest, how many of us use two too many Target plastic bags every single time we go? Guilty. I come home with an unnecessary amount of plastic in my hands that usually wind up in the trash bin anyway. Let’s all agree to skip this nonsense and start bringing our own cloth bags when we go grocery shopping. Or, if that seems like it won’t work for you, opt for a couple of reusable boxes.
3. Walk, bike, or carpool.
Our poor environment puts up with so much trash from us, literally and figuratively! The air is just polluted with all kinds of waste, the most prominent form being car gas. Not only would it help the environment if more people carpooled, it would also help the flow of traffic on your way to work in the morning. If you live close enough to your job, you might consider riding your bike or walking if you can. This will help the environment as well as give you a bit of a morning burst of exercise. It’s a win-win!
4. Smart thermostats: not just for the environment.
If more people used less energy inside their homes, the world would be a much greener place. Not to mention, your energy bills would stay way low! Sound good? Smart thermostats allow people to both live greenly and save some money. Some alarms even allow for programmability to work wirelessly. Can we just stop and think about that for a second… I do not even be home to control my utilities! So if you want to turn up the air conditioner to make sure your bills don’t sky rocket during the summer, you can do so with your phone. I found a local company here that provides Kyle home security that helps the environment and your wallet!
